Why Boys Don't Give a Shit About Life.:: Wednesday, March 29, 2006 ::
Numerous articles decrying the fact that boys are giving up and staying at home rather than growing up and starting families.
I remember the fear and anxiety I went through as a high schooler contemplating moving away and going to college. I had an older brother who was a terrible grind - he spoke of staying up studying long hours every night, the torture that professors put him through to raise his grade a half point. Alcoholism, depression, drug abuse, anxiety over getting drafted for Viet Nam, the societal chaos of the 60s, poverty and near starvation made it difficult for me to concentrate on getting "top grades for a top job". I did what I had to do to graduate, and I then fell into a "career" of varying jobs that had nothing to do with anything I had experienced in college classrooms. College life and the work world might as well be on different planets - except for the one-upmanship, backstabbing, and social climbing carried on by those invested in rising in the establishment. My teenage sons were more intuitive than I had been - they realized the hollow phoniness of "education" in high school, whereas I had kept my naivete until sophomore year at college. Additionally, my sons now face the obdurate anti-male intransigence that nearly 40 years of radical feminism have inculcated in educational institutions and in the work world as well, especially the public agencies that employ what's left of the American middle class, whereas I only experienced a foretaste of feminist male-hatred in the spawning days of the bra-burners. So the boys want to stay at home? Smart choice, I'd say. Let the women have the world for a while. Let's see how they do. Womens' liberalism will guarantee that the boys won't starve, they can suck off the state. Altogether an extremely rational and wise development on the part of our young men. Commendable, I would say.
