| Ever have a "close encounter with fame"? In the 90s, our neighbor across the street was Spanky McFarlane - of Spanky & Our Gang - with the 1967 hit "Sunday Will Never Be the Same". Spanky babysat our two boys occasionally - and had some great stories of the music scene in Chicago, her home base in the 60s. We think of Spanky as a family friend now. | |

| My "close encounter wih fame" came with the man who started and perfected liver transplants, Dr Thomas Starzl. I wish the circumstances would have been better, but no complaints about the outcome. He is an amazing individual and the drugs he has worked on and the doctors he has trained have saved thousans of lives, mine included. He was the head of transplantation at Pittsburgh when I met him and he bcame very involved in my case, probably because it was a little strange, and kept track of me for a couple years after the transplant. Maybe that`s why after 17 years I`m able to come to this renion and see everyone I haven`t seen in 40 years. | |
